Legislative Reporting Service
For more than 60 years, the School of Governments Legislative Reporting
Service has informed local governments, state agencies, and North Carolina
citizens about the status and content of North Carolina legislation.
The centerpiece of the Legislative Reporting Service since 1935, the
Daily Bulletin is published at the end
of each day the General Assembly is in session. The Daily
Bulletin contains a summary of every bill introduced and every
amendment and committee substitute adopted. At the end of the legislative
session, Daily Bulletin subscribers will
also receive the Index of Legislation, described below.
North
Carolina Legislation is a comprehensive summary of
legislation enacted by the General Assembly affecting areas
of public law and government that are of special concern to
state and local government officials. It is written by School
of Government faculty and published approximately four
months after adjournment of the legislative session.
A cumulative report of the current status of all public and local bills,
the Weekly Status Report organizes local bills by county and organizes
public bills by subject categories that include each chapter of the General
Statutes, appropriations, constitutional amendments, studies, and joint
resolutions. Within each category, the report shows the number and short
title of each bill, the most recent action taken with respect to the bill,
and the date of the most recent action on the bill. The report also includes
a cross-index by bill number. The Weekly Status Report is emailed
to subscribers each Monday and includes actions through
the previous Friday.
The Index of Legislation, published at the end of each legislative
session, includes all of the information in the Weekly Status Report
and two additional reports, one indexing all enacted public bills by G.S.
Chapter and another listing all enacted legislation in chronological order.
